About the Chef

I’m Nasreen, head chef, master eater, recipe developer and mess maker! My cooking journey began when I was a wee little one. I guess you can actually say it was an eating journey first because I was not a cook. Not at all. Eating was my jam, and if I’m being honest, it still is! Challenge me to a pasta eating contest. I dare you!

As a child, my Nanima was the chef in our kitchen at home and the dishes she made for us were divine. I can't find the right words to describe her cooking. Eating her food made me feel like home. Yup, that’s exactly it I think. Home. Her food touched my heart and tugged at my emotions.

Growing up, I didn’t know my way around a kitchen, but the kitchen always was, and still is my happy place. I decided a number of years ago to spend time with my Nanima, Mom and Maci and try to learn to cook our family dishes. Best decision I ever made. I am no expert, but I was proudly trained by the best culinary school out there. The Nazak & Karim Culinary School.

Over the past few years I have realized my love for cooking is strong, and wanted to share that passion. Cooking feels like home to me and I love that a good meal can bring people together in happy times and not so happy ones.

I started a little cooking blog on Instagram in 2020 and love the little community at What’s Nasreen Cooking. I feel so much joy when someone makes and loves a recipe of mine or shares with me that they tried something new. That’s it right there. I want people to try something new. Just try.

I believe anyone can cook. If I can, you can. Trust me. My kitchen is a place to learn, create and to make incredibly large messes! I have two small children that love helping, and when I say helping, they like to lick the icing bowls and dump sprinkles on the floor. But, I guess that is all part of the process!

I hope that you find some inspiration from my page and recipes that you can share with your friends and family for years to come. I invite you to try something new, you just might surprise yourself!

Thank you for joining me on my cooking adventures!
