How To Make Powdered Sugar

Powdered sugar (also known as icing or confectioner’s sugar) is an ingredient that I always try to have on hand. It is great for so many things. I love dusting it on top of desserts like cakes and cupcakes for that final touch.

I also use it a lot in the winter months as it looks like snow on desserts. Gives desserts that holiday wintery feel! It is great for dusting on pancakes, waffles, French toast, and even on hot chocolate.

The most obvious use for powdered sugar is using it to make frosting. It is one of the main ingredients you need!

Did you know you can make it at home if you don’t have any store bought packages? The store bought variety has added corn starch inside it to make sure it doesn’t cake/clump up when storing. When you make it at home, you can make it on demand so no need to add corn starch.

All you need is some granulated sugar and a blender or food processor.

Here is how to make 1 cup of powdered sugar:

Blend 1/2 a cup of white granulated sugar in a blender or food processor until it becomes fine and fluffy.

That is it! I recommend you use it immediately as saving it can cause it to clump up.

Enjoy!

I love dusting powdered sugar on top of my vanilla pound cakes. It adds that extra finishing touch!

Pro tip - make sure your cake is completely cool before dusting the sugar on top.
