5 Must Have Kitchen Gadgets

Over the years I have collected quite a few kitchen tools and gadgets. Some I use more frequently than others, and some I don’t even use at all! I thought it would be helpful to put together a short list of my must haves in the kitchen. These are not appliances, but rather little tools that just make cooking and baking that much easier. I honestly use some of these every day, if not more than that.

I have tried to link the exact tools that I have in my kitchen for you. Simply click on the photo for an affiliate link. Where the exact item is not available, I have linked the most similar one to mine.

Meat Masher

This tool is somewhat new to my collection. It is amazing for mashing up ground meats so you are not jabbing at the meat with your wooden spoon/spatula. I used to do that, and it was exhausting! If you want a good arm workout, then by all means continue…but this tool is a game changer (and will save your pan surface from scratches too). I use it when I brown meat for meat pies, tacos, pizza, samosas, chili and more! You can also use it to mash up potatoes which is handy especially around the holidays! I have used it to mush up tomatoes in soups/curries as well.

Citrus Squeezer

I used to squeeze lemon/lime the old fashioned way until my neighbor laughed at me a few years ago. This gadget is a must have. You literally get all the juice out of the lemon and there is less waste! I use this when I need fresh citrus in recipes or those big pitchers of summertime drinks. I use it the most however when making marinades for chicken! Fresh squeezed lemon is best for marinating chicken. Beware that not all citrus squeezers are made equal. Get a good quality (not plastic!) sturdy metal one.

Kitchen Scale

A kitchen scale is a must in my kitchen. I find it so helpful when figuring out portion sizes for meats, rice and even fish. I use the scale in combo with my measuring spoons/cups to make my cooking and baking more accurate. Everyone has different sized spoons and cups, so using the scale along with proper measuring tools, ensures you are speaking the same language as the recipe creator.

French Fry Cutter

This gadget is the most fun of the bunch I think. No more spending time and effort cutting potatoes for fries or hash browns. This device cuts your potatoes so fast! Evenly cut, which means even cooking! Saves time and effort…win win for me! We make air fryer French fries a lot and this tool is a lifesaver. I also use it when I’m making fresh hash browns, chopping onions and more!

Meat Thermometer

If I had to pick just one kitchen gadget from this post to keep, I think this would be the one. I use it every day. It is the only way that you can make sure your meats are cooked to perfection. I used to think this was just for Thanksgiving to check the bird. Nope. No more overcooked steak, or undercooked chicken in my kitchen. Perfectly cooked salmon every time that is flaky and never dry inside! I used to cut into my chicken breasts to check for doneness. Result - juices spilling out and dry chicken. No more. If you second guess if your meats are fully cooked, you need this device.
