Baked Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

I have to admit I was skeptical about baked donuts. But once I tried this recipe out, I was fully converted.

These take 10 minutes to bake and use pantry staples to make. They are divine. I felt like I was a little girl back at the Pacific National Exhibition eating the mini donuts they served during the fair. (If you know, you know).

Pro tip - use a mixture of regular sized donut pans and mini donut pans for a donut extravaganza! I love placing my mini donuts in brown paper bags so I feel like I am back at the fair eating the mini donuts.

Recipe for Baked Cinnamon Sugar Donuts:

Ingredients Needed:

1 cup flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 egg

1/3 cup light brown sugar

1/4 cup milk (I use whole milk)

1/4 cup plain yogurt

2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted

1½ teaspoons vanilla

Topping:

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 cup unsalted butter melted

Servings Made: 8 regular sized donuts

Time to Prep: 15 minutes

Time to Cook: 10 minutes

How to Make:

Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a donut pan with cooking spray or brush with butter.

In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. You can use a hand whisk to mix. Set aside.

In another bowl, whisk the egg, brown sugar, milk, and yogurt together until well combined. Add melted butter and vanilla and mix. Pour this mixture into your dry ingredients (flour mixture) and whisk together until just combined.

Use a spoon or a piping bag (or a large Zipper top bag with the bottom corner cut off). Fill each donut cavity about 2/3 full. They will expand a lot when baking so don’t overfill them!

Bake for 9-10 minutes until edges are light brown. Cool in pan for a few minutes, then gently invert to cool on wire racks. You can eat these as is, but I highly recommend you dip them in sugar/cinnamon.

When donuts are cool, mix the cinnamon and sugar for the topping in a shallow bowl large enough to hold 1 donut. Brush the tops and bottom of each donut with melted butter and dip into sugar mixture to coat evenly.

Serve immediately.

Enjoy!

Pro Tip

You can make these as mini donuts or regular sized ones too!

If you don’t have a donut pan, use a muffin tin (regular or mini) and they work just fine.
