Stovetop Popcorn
There is something about the taste of stovetop popcorn that gets me every time. I don’t know if it’s the freshness or what exactly it is, but I love it.
I like to make a few batches at a time. I let it cool down and then put them in air tight containers or large zipper top bags to keep them fresh for a few days.
Pro tip - You can make this popcorn festive by drizzling some melted chocolate on top and sprinkling on some crushed peppermint or even colored sprinkles to match the holiday.
Recipe for Stovetop Popcorn:
Ingredients Needed:
2/3 cup popcorn kernels
2-3 tablespoons oil of choice (I use olive oil but you could use coconut or canola oil also)
Salt to taste
Optional - melted butter to top or other seasonings such as hot sauce or parmesan cheese, drizzled chocolate, sprinkles.
Servings Made: 2-3 servings
Time to Prep: N/A
Time to Cook: 5-7 minutes
How to Make:
Heat oil over medium high in a large pot. Add popcorn kernels and salt (about 1 teaspoon). Stir together to coat the kernels. You want there to be enough kernels to fully cover the bottom of the pot but only a single layer so make sure your pot is large enough. Close the lid of the pot.
Shake kernels around frequently (wear oven mitts when doing this as the pot handles can get really hot). Once kernels start to pop, you can lower temperature to medium and keep shaking around.
When popping slows to about 2-3 seconds between pops, take the pot off the heat but keep the lid on to allow more kernels to pop in the steam. Remove lid but be careful when opening lid as steam will escape and you don’t want to get burnt! Toss with melted butter and add more salt if desired.
