Banana Brûlée
I have to be honest, I was never a banana fan when I was younger. I only ate it in banana bread (with tons of butter slathered on top). I think this is my Mom’s fault as she absolutely despised bananas and still does. She has this gag reflex when it comes to them and it is hilarious. (sorry Mom!)
I now actually enjoy eating them! Mostly in shakes, cakes, muffins, ice cream sundaes, deep fried in batter…you get it. The dessert variety.
Enter banana brûlée. Sliced bananas covered in sugar and torched to perfection. Top it with ice cream and it is a dessert you will love. The best part? It only takes a few minutes to make!
Recipe for Banana Brûlée:
Ingredients Needed:
1 banana sliced into sections
2-3 teaspoons granulated sugar (you can use brown sugar also or a mixture of both)
Pinch ground cinnamon
Optional toppings (add on after cooked) - ice cream, chocolate chips, whipped cream, Nutella, chopped nuts.
Servings Made: 1-2 servings
Time to Prep: 2 minutes
Time to Make: 2-3 minutes
How to Make:
Slice banana into sections about 1 cm thick or to your desired thickness. Top with cinnamon and sugar topping.
If you have a kitchen torch, use this to caramelize sugar on top until it is crispy and golden. You can also place the plate of bananas in the oven and broil it if you don’t have a torch. You will get the same results. Make sure you watch it closely as it will not take long at all! (Also make sure to use an oven safe dish if you do this and wear oven mitts when removing)
Serve with ice cream, or other desired toppings.
Enjoy!
