Cheese Taco Bowls

These crunchy taco bowls are made out of melted cheese! Perfect mini bowl you can fill up with your choice of toppings! Make it a DIY taco night for the family and lay out all the toppings and bowls so everyone is involved in helping :)

I love adding some ground beef, tomatoes, cucumbers and of course a huge spoon of sour cream on top. You can change up the add ins to make a different bowl every time! Fresh chopped jalapeños, grilled steak or chicken, tofu, avocado, chopped green onions or even sautéed peppers would be awesome in these bowls.

Pro tip - you can use a silicone sphere mold to make these bowls if you have one. If not, use a muffin tin, small bowl or similar would work also. I was trying to come up with new ways to use my silicone mold other than just for hot chocolate bombs.

Recipe for Cheese Taco Bowls:

Ingredients Needed: (you will also need a mold such as a silicone sphere mold, small glass bowls, muffin tins or similar to create your shape.

8-12 oz shredded cheese (I like to use the pre shredded blends to save time)

Your choice of fillings and toppings such as:

  • cooked ground beef, turkey or chicken

  • diced onions, cucumbers, tomatoes

  • chopped green onions

  • salsa, sour cream, guacamole

  • sliced avocado

  • chopped jalapeños

  • diced peppers

  • grilled steak, chicken, tofu

  • hot sauce or red chili flakes

  • refried beans, pinto or black beans

  • cooked rice

  • chopped cilantro

  • The options are really endless!

Servings Made: 6-8 mini bowls

Time to Prep: 5 minutes

Time to Cook: 10 - 20 minutes

How to Make:

Place 1-2 oz of shredded cheese onto a heated non stick pan over medium heat. Place the cheese in the shape of a circle (the size depends on how large your mold is to make the cups). Layer the cheese slightly so there are no large gaps or holes.

Allow the cheese to bubble and cook away. It will start to harden and crisp at the edges, wait until the middle also starts to harden (it also gets less shiny in appearance) and then gently and carefully remove it from the pan (with a spatula) and place it over top of your mold.

I like to use my silicone sphere mold but anything bowl shaped would work. If needed, use your hands or a spoon (be careful as the cheese will be hot) to gently press the melted cheese disc around the sides of your mold to form a bowl shape. Let the cheese discs sit on the mold until they come to room temperature so they retain their shape.

Repeat process above with rest of cheese until your desired number of bowls have been made.

Once the bowls have hardened, gently remove them. Invert, and fill with your choice of fillings and toppings and serve immediately.

Enjoy!
