Holiday Sprinkle Cookies

I love the holidays especially all of the baking that tends to occur. Baking with the family is a tradition for us over the holidays. I always break out the festive sprinkles and make these holiday sprinkle cookies. I still need to learn to accept the sprinkle explosions that come while baking with kids ;)

These cookies freeze so well after baking so you can make extra and freeze them to have on demand! Perfect for the busy holiday season when you already have so much going on. Prep and bake well in advance!

Pro tip - change up the sprinkle colors to suit your needs for whatever holiday, birthday, or big game day you are celebrating!

Recipe for Holiday Sprinkle Cookies:

Ingredients Needed:

½ cup plus 1 ½ tablespoons butter softened (room temperature)

½ cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar

1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

1 ½ cups flour

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 egg

2-4 tablespoons sprinkles for topping

*for information on different types of sprinkles and baking with them, check out the post on my Kitchen Tips page

Servings Made: About 25 cookies

Time to Prep: 10 minutes

Time to Cook: 20 minutes

How to Make:

Preheat oven to 325°F. Line a few large baking trays with parchment paper.

Cream butter and sugar together with an electric mixer for 3 minutes until fluffy and lighter in color. Add in flour, baking powder and vanilla. Mix well until loose dough forms.

Finally, crack in egg and mix until soft dough forms. You can add in 1-2 tablespoons of sprinkles in the dough now and mix with hands. You want the dough to be soft when rolling the dough balls but not so soft that sticks to your hands.

Place a few tablespoons of sprinkles in a shallow dish for topping cookies.

Using your hands, form small balls of dough about 1 tablespoon in size. Take dough ball, gently press and flatten into the dish with sprinkles to coat top. Place each cookie on your baking tray about 2 inches apart.

Bake for about 16-18 minutes until cookies light brown on edges. Allow to cool completely on wire racks before handling.

Enjoy!
