Panko Breaded Halibut
My Mom showed me how to broil fish in the oven years ago and I have never baked my fish again since. Broiling the fish gives it a nice crispy outside without drying out the inside of the fish.
Pro tip - invest in a meat thermometer. This one linked it similar to the one I use. It is the best way to know if your fish is cooked to perfection and not over or undercooked. They are pretty inexpensive and you will use it almost daily.
Recipe for Panko Breaded Halibut:
Ingredients Needed:
3-4 pieces of halibut (fresh is best, and portioned to 3-4 oz each)
1/4 cup Panko bread crumbs or seasoned bread crumbs
1/8 teaspoon dill
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Olive oil spray
1 tablespoon melted butter
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional - 1/4 cup shaved or grated parmesan cheese
Servings Made: 3-4 servings
Time to Prep: 5 minutes
Time to Cook: 10-15 minutes
How to Make:
Prepare a baking tray for the fish. Line it with aluminum foil and spray with olive oil or cooking spray. Set aside.
Move your oven rack to top or second from top position. (Make sure your oven is not on or hot when doing this!!)
Place bread crumbs, parmesan cheese (if using) and seasoning in a bowl large enough for the fish filets to fit inside. Mix well.
Brush or dip each fish filet in melted butter (coat both sides) and then place in bread crumb mixture to coat evenly. Place fish onto greased baking tray and spray tops with olive oil spray. Don’t spray them too closely or the breading will fly off.
Broil on high in oven for about 8-11 minutes until filets cooked throughout. Use a meat thermometer to check doneness.
Serve immediately with lemon wedges.
Enjoy!
